Applicard/StarCard or Alex Freed

Thanks Steven. Now to track down an Applicard.

They used to be fairly common on eBay, but I haven't seen one for a while.

I dare say my clone is better for actual use (as opposed to collection).
Actually event for a collection it should have some value as a rarity as only
25 were ever built :)

Seconded! I put a 20Mhz Z80 in mine and it really screams. The USB port is
also very handy (not sure if anyone other than Alex and I ever added one of
those).

Interestingly after 2 years of silence I got 3 requests in 2 weeks and that
took care of the last 2 remaining boards.

If there is any interest left I could make another batch.

-Alex.

I just order one from Alex. Tell me more about the USB port.

With a bit more work, you can piggyback an FTDI USB<-->Serial module and leverage it as a very hi-speed COM port. This requires a programmed PAL device, the FTDI board, a couple of chip sockets and some jumper wires. Not a big deal if you are handy on the bench.

I can burn a PAL for you (free if you send me a blank and return postage) if you cannot get it from Alex. Cannot recall the part number of the USB module, but it may be on Alex's web site.

I hacked together a MEX overlay for the FTDI and was able to shoot files back and forth from my Linux box (running minicom).
