This may be true, but the Mac Plus is one of the earliest computers to use
SIMMs,
(1986?) and only uses 1 meg SIMMs max.  Yet I just tried, and 3 chip SIMMs
from a PC work fine in the Mac Plus. I tried several sets, and had no
problem booting and running applications.
