The problem is probably, as has been suggested, the normal coloring of
Text when shown below a hires or lores display. Getting rid of the coloring
in these situations is not easy since it involves a hardware mod to your
Apple II and monitor which kills color for just the Text window.
Text will be pure white on some hires games, etc. because the Text is
created using hires characters designed to appear white. That is, the Text is
part of a full-screen hires display, not regular Apple II Text in a window
below the display.
If you get consistent, very noticable color 'shadowing' of Text
characters in a normal full-Text display, the problem is color convergence.
