I don't know why I forgot about these, but NAUG did
a compilation of freeware launchers that were either
shells or BASIC-type programs that would do what you're
looking for. Since many of them were text-based they
should work fine with a ][ or ][+. You can find them on
the Trenco ftp site at ftp.gno.org and follow the
pathname apple2/prodos/utils/launchers . There's
two downloads, that go with 2 5.25" disks File names:
naug.a.shk and naug.b.shk They also have ProBoot and
Squirt in the same subdirectory--I think Squirt will work
on a pre-//e machine--not sure about ProBoot offhand.
But you SHOULD be able to find something of use on the
NAUG disks. :)
