Yes, gray areas exist in legal systems regardless of whether you are a
"pirate" or a "vogon". However, the ROM code gray area we have been
discussing seems to be getting whiter all the time.
However, when it comes to most of the software being distributed on
sites like Asimov, it is crystal clear (white, if you prefer that
term). The law says that a copyrighted work is protected for at least
75 years. As none of those titles have had their copyright expire and
most of those haven't been released from their copyright or had their
distribution restrictions lifted, it is quite clear that they are
being illegally distributed.
