You know,

Scenario #1
You buy a car and don't research it's origin/status. You are riding
down the road and a pig pulls you over. He thinks you are a weirdo
because you are wearing an Apple II shirt, so he decides to check out
the car. He looks at the serial number, and notices something strange
about it. He pokes at it with his baton (aka beating stick) and what
do you know, there is a fake serial number on a plate glued over the
real serial number, and it falls off. The cop arrests you for grand
theft auto.
Scenario #2
You buy a CD player for real cheap from the newspaper. You listen to
it in the park and a guy sees you with it. All of a sudden a cop has
you in handcuffs, arrested for possession of stolen property.
There are alot of stupid laws out there.
some easy ways to avoid breaking the law:
1)research what you are interested before you buy it
2)don't post to an Apple II newsgroup that you have a ware and don't
know its status, it isn't original, and you previously were involved in
alot of noise reguarding pirated software. (ok thats just to avoid
looking like and being a hypocrite.)
You should find out if it is a freeware/shareware/pd product
BEFORE you do ANYTHING with it, including BUYING it.
The damage is already partially done. Somebody took the $0.50 that you
spent on it and bought themselves a pack of gum.

Before you buy.
