     This newsgroup focuses upon Apple II series computers. You may be able
to get a good answer to your question on a Mac newsgroup such as
comp.sys.mac.system .

     Another place you may be able to get some good answers is Adalbert
Goertz's Pages at http://www.cyberspace.org/~goertz/ . Adalbert has some
suggestions for dealing with the umlaut problem.
