Re: New A2 Trade/Swap site-- update
It seemed like a good idea to just go ahead and contact Darren and ask
about things like the presence of GraphicWriter III. It turns out that GWIII
was there by accident and that actual piracy was never intended.
GraphicWriter III has been delisted.
The site's intro message now says: "So what is an Apple II user to do?
My opinion: start swapping." (instead of ... "start pirating").
There is also a new disclaimer which states:
"Much of the software below has already gone into the public domain, anyway,
or at least should have gone. I don't have the time to research the life
story of each and every disk I have. Many are shareware/freeware. If you see
something here you think is still commercially supported, let me know and
I'll take it off the list. Thanks."
If a user notices any current commercial software remaining in the
listings, please contact Darren at the email address on the site.
The above changes fit much better with the site's statement about not
trading in current commercial software (present on the original page):
"In most cases, I see no ethical problem with this. No one is losing. In the
next few decades, the copyrights on the software will expire anyway. In a few
cases, there is software that's still commercially supported -- even if it's
just by one guy with a makeshift website. Such software should not be swapped
yet. My opinion is, if it has been supported within the last five years,
hands off."
So, it looks like we have a new (non-pirate) source for old out-of-print
Apple II/IIgs software!
