The only occurrence of "5 years" in relation to CD longevity that
I have seen is the shelf-life of an unrecorded CD-R.  An obscure
reference somewhere along the way said that, after 5 years, you'd
have trouble writing to a CD-R, perhaps because the dye "sets"
somehow.  I've only seen the information in one place, so I would
take it with a grain of salt.
