Perhaps it's the OS's fault. :-)

I haven't had any problems since I started using Linux and
Netscape (a couple of years ago.)  All files I download this way
are transferred with the 'save as' feature. I have found this
works for text and binary. Of course, most text files for the GS
are Binscii'd and unbinscii quite well with GSCII.

While this stands to reason, it's not always true. Netscape
works great for me as either a browser or ftp client. However,
I still prefer Gftp for multiple (or large) downloads.
