No, it was possible to drop the carrier signal on most PC comm
programs to hangup the modem. From the BBS software point of view
this posed a problem since it abruptly disconnected the user.

I will admit to my error on the CD connecting. I forgot to add
about the connection sequence. However, the carrier signal must
be available for the data to transfer with a modem connection.
