14.4 Modem: "CD" indicator light remains on

Two days ago, I bought a used modem at a thrift shop for $5. It
is a "LINELINK 144e" which is a clone of the Prometheus 144e. The label
on the bottom states that it is made by Prometheus for use with Macintosh.
The modem works ---- it is in operation now, as I write. My
regular modem is the Prometheus 144e.
The only puzzling feature of this modem is that the "CD" red LED
incator lamp is always on, but that is not the case with the Prometheus
144e. I opened the Prometheus to see whether there are jumpers or
switches inside, and there are none.
What does the "CD" lamp indicate? The LineLink 144e seems
otherwise to work fine. Steve Buggie
