This post might put you to sleep but I wanted to post the big reason
this kind of thing bothers me because I don't mention it very much.
The rest is just some musings on why I think piracy is currently such
a problem with the Apple II.

The big reason it bothers me is because it is only a tiny step from
doing that to pirating newer stuff or stuff that is still supported.

This isn't the only reason it bothers me but I've posted many reasons
in the past and I don't have time to go into them all again right now.

It seems to me that the piracy of Apple II software stems directly
from "laziness".  People don't want to put the effort into finding out
if a product is still available or tracking down a used copy or
contacting the copyright holder to ask for a copy or for the product
to be reclassified.  Especially once they stop in here and someone
points them to one or more of the pirate sites and all they have to do
is start downloading.

Another problem that arises due to this "laziness" is that if someone
uploads a current title or something that is still being supported,
they will most likely download it thinking that they are "doing no
harm" (which has nothing to do with copyright law, by the way).  This
is because they can't be bothered to check into the status of the
product and the people who run these sites and upload these files
don't bother to tell them.

Oh, and by the way, I don't know why the pro-piracy crowd hasn't
caught on to this fact yet, but if they didn't post about these
illegal sites and activities here in this public forum, then those of
us who are anti-piracy wouldn't have any messages that we could reply
to to point out all the errors.  :-)
