     4164 are 64k x 1 RAM chips.

     A 4264 would be a 16k x 4 RAM. It would not be compatible with a 4164.
(4264 is a Panasonic number. An electronic parts dealer who handles Panasonic
chips could sell you some.)

I do not have a //c schematic and do not know what kind of chips
"HALxxxx" may be. Running a bit hot does not always mean a chip is bad-- some
chips naturally run hot.

With power turned OFF, try removing and replacing each chip which is in a
socket. This may fix a bad contact and cure your problems.

You might get some good suggestions from the guys who run the French //c
site at http://www.multimania.com/apple2c/Docs/Docs.htm . (There is an email
contact address shown near the bottom of the web page at
http://www.multimania.com/apple2c/links.htm )
