Re: Apple IIgs in IIe case?



There are several problems with GS emulation and it's speed. One
is emulating the hardware itself. The GS was designed to be
backward compatable with the IIe. To do this several hardware
tricks had to be used. These tricks make emulation much harder.
Take for instance, the need to slow down to access the 5.25 floppy
drive. For a better understanding of this, check out the KEGS
source.

As for XGS, simply running under Windows slows this down. Windows
does not perform multi-tasking the same as Linux/X does and this
affects the performance of processor intensive applications. XGS
has to perform most of it's work internally compared to most
Windows programs which make extensive use of the system's
libraries. This was more obvious when comparing XGS Dos with
XGS32.
