Are you talking about XGS? XGS is slow because it is not optimized.
In fact, you will find that on a Pentium 200 level machine, XGS will
still be slower than a real IIGS (do NOT simply look at the emulated
Mhz XGS reports in the bootlog file because anytime the IIGS makes
a sound or draws the mouse cursor in motion or there is moving
video, there is a huge speed hit so those Mhz that XGS reports are
lies only useful if your emulator is just idling).
In fact, it is not just ZSNES that's faster. Try running Gemulator,
a Macintosh emulator. You'll find that MacOS is emulated faster
than the IIGS under XGS. Or run UAE and find Amiga emulation
faster than IIGS emulation under XGS.
One solution is to install Linux and run KEGS. KEGS runs quite
a bit faster than XGS. Of course I have found that nothing beats
a real IIGS with 8MB of memory, a large hard drive (I have a 1GB
SCSI drive plus other storage devices such as a Zip drive and a
CD-ROM on my IIGS), and a TWGS or ZipGS running at 12.5Mhz
or greater. The Bernie emulator for the PowerMac might go
faster, but nothing is as IIGS compatible or stable as a real IIGS
with memory, storage, and acceleration.
