That's a bit different. If you want to actually use long dead products, it's
only logical to get the best one. Like for example how my ROM 3 has been
on my desk forever while the Mac next to it has gone from Q700 to Q840av to
PM8500. There is no getting a newer IIgs. Anyone still wanting to use a II
should have the newest there is, especially since you can find even that in a
dumpster nowadays. Then factor in how stuff is actually out there for using
hard disks in that ROM 3 while IIc versions are incredibly hard to come by.
I occasionally bring out the IIc plus, IIe, grey key IIc with a 1 mb slinky
card, LCD screen, CT-20c hard disk, III plus, original ][s, Mac XL, yada
yada out to fiddle with, but I'm not inclined to worry about how there are
no new products for 'em any more. For tinker factor, they're fine as is.
In particular I rarely use that CT-20c since years ago I lost a power supply
to a power flicker. No way possible of replacing it again.
