Re: Kfest opinions

                               KANSASFEST

I attended K-Fest 1996 and wrote an article, KANSASFEST PILGRIMAGE, in II
Alive magazine the following season. It is worth seeing, at least once.

I only attended once. The cost is high. I can only afford it if I teach
summer school, but if I teach summer school, then I miss the first half of
the K-Fest events. Catch-22.

For years I've urged that the cost be reduced to $50. plus the dorm room
costs. But the high price has become entrenched and is hard to modify.
My opinion is that expenses of staging the event are minimal because most
arrangements are done via e-mail and the event is always held at the same
venue - Avila College. If fresh thinking could be done, dropping the
costs drastically below what they have been, then more people would
attend. No one has yet explained where all the money goes. As a 1996
presenter, I got a $50.00 discount, and as an early bird registrant, there
was another discount. Still, the cost was about $250 that year. But it
is basically a "get-together"! Where are the expenses? Does someone get
their own air-fare paid, or what??? Lets have EVERYONE PAY THEIR OWN WAY,
their own dorm room, and then $50 will cover the printing of the paper
program and the snail mail postage costs!

Also, lets DROP THE BAN against Dr. Tom Turley! The exclusion of Turley
has led to protests and K-Fest boycotts by others in past years. Dr. Tom
has fresh ideas and he has helped the A2 world in the past by getting
software added to the public domain, with the copyright owners' concent.

: If you are at all an Apple II fan, then it is definitely worth going.

: I wanted to go for years but could never afford it and finally scraped

: again this year and have just posted a message to the Delphi A2 Forum
: to see if there is anyone wanting to share the drive from the Toronto,

: NOTE: The text side message is available as of this posting but the

: However, the place I got the most hardware last year was at Sean

: floppy drives, keyboards and a few other things I think.

: If there is anything in particular you are looking for you can always
: ask for it on the KFest mailing list so that if someone has it for
: sale they can be sure to bring it with them. There is information

: http://www.kfest.org

: Pretty much anything can happen at KFest and you can have an
: incredibly good time there.

: By the way, early registration prices end next Friday (the 15th of
: April).
