Re: II GS Memory & ProDOS

Bill:
The GS Ram board has chips installed that have 256k BITS. 8 BITS are in
each BYTE, therefore 8 chips is equal to 256k bytes. So each set of 8
chips is 256k bytes times 6 sets equals 1.5 M total on the board.

The HD has a corrupted ProDOS file. Reinstall the ProDOS file from a
bootable System disk. Barring that, your HD may have a bit of
corruption.

To disassemble the System saver GS, there are screws under the foam edge
seal. You may locate the screws easily with a probe or the tip of your
screwdriver by tapping along the seal until you feel the hole
underneath. Be very careful about removing these screws and minimize the
damage to the foam seal. The seal is needed in tact if the system Saver
is to be effective at drawing air out of your IIgs. I can offer no
suggestion for a replacement fan on the system saver GS, it's a big
honkin heavy thing that runs 120 volts AC. I read somewhere that you
could use a IIe system saver fan in it's place.

Thankx,
Ed
