Re: Concerning the Beagle Brothers freeware archives, graphics and such
Perhaps I'm missing something here and I've been around message
forums of one sort or another since the BBS era. As far as I can
tell, this is a public forum as designated by the access medium.
Even when they were first started, they were considered public
access mediums. In light of this fact, it stands to reason that
any messages posted here would be in the public domain by default.
While I agree that everyone has the basic right to protect their
intellectual property. One can not complain when they publicly
post this property in a known public forum.
And knowing this is a public forum which is archived on a regular
basis (afaik) these people still post messages which they don't
want duplicated.
I'm sure many people have valid reasons for not wanting their
posts duplicated, not the least of which, they simply don't want
to take responsibility for their posted messages. It only takes a
little bit of reasoning to figure out that if you don't want it to
be copied for whatever reason, don't post it in a known public
forum.
For the record, I'm not taking any sides on this issue, as I would
ask any person or company for permission to duplicate their work
or other intellectual property. At the very least I try to give
proper credit for any work/property I make reference to or any use
of. While I don't normally copy other's work or posts, I may make
a reference to them and perhaps a small quote which I believe
falls into the category of fair use.
It seems that many of the disagreements here could easily be
resolved by the use of a little courtesy and a lot less
prejudice. I for one come here to chat with other Apple II users,
and really dislike having to wade through posts about improper
copying usage and other people's piracy and even other people's
outright hatred of particular regular visitors to this news group.
How about we try to put this huge waste of energy into better
conversations about the Apple II and the various ways we make use
of it everyday, please.

I have setup a quick ZIPTO link which you guys
can use to branch to my pages no matter where
on the Internet they reside. Hopefully they
won't be relocated after I move them to our
new web host. So remember, don't link your
bookmarks to the actual web pages, just copy
the link below into the link location for the
bookmark you have setup in your favorite web
browser.
