Difference between 'disk II' and 'disk III' floppy!

Hi!

I have a Apple /// system with a beige,external 5.25" floppy drive with
designation "disk III".  Is this drive identical to the  'disk II', and will
it work as direct replacement for a 'disk II' on a II /IIe system?
