The _normal_ IIgs display on an RGB monitor is to have a border around
the edge which is slightly under one inch wide. You can choose the
border colour (as well as the text and background colours) using the
Display page in the Control Panel.

There are three knobs on the back of the monitor. The one on the right
adjusts the image height and the one on the left adjusts the image
width. Try playing with these.

The only other possibility which occurs to me is that your system might
have been set to run at 50 Hz instead of 60 Hz (or vice versa), but this
only affects the screen height, not the width.
