Thanks...I realised what I was doing wrong after I posted, so that's resolved.
But to get out of this continual seeking mess I reset and get the Basic prompt.
Problem number two is that I can't initialize any blank disks from this state,
but I don't
have any already-formatted disks if this would make a difference. Thanks
