Apple II Desktop is not a real GUI operating system. It is a
program launcher. Nothing runs UNDER it.

GEOS is a real GUI operating system. The GEOS suite of
programs runs under it. Also, it is possible to cross-compile
Commodore GEOS programs to run under Apple II GEOS.
Some of the code needs to be changed, but it is possible.
That was what the makers of GEOS originally intended to
happen. Sadly, the software needed to make this happen
was never released to the public.

GEOS does NOT need ProDOS. However, if you wanted
to launch ProDOS programs FROM the GEOS equivalent
of the Finder, then you need a copy of ProDOS 8 on the
GEOS disk. In this respect, it is similar to how GS/OS
needs a copy of ProDOS 8 to launch 8-bit software.

If you were only using GEOS programs with GEOS, then
you can delete the copy of ProDOS 8 on disk.
