I remember two things about tape with my Apple II.

First, I had my Apple II a whole year before I got my first disk drive
so I got to know the tape interface really well!

Second, there was a really cool program called AppleTalker in a UK
Apple mag called Orchard which would "digitize" input from a tape
recorder and allow you to play it back through the Apple speaker.
I distinctly remember getting one of my first DOS3.3 disks to boot up
the program to play a recording which said "Hello John, I've been
expecting you" (remember "War Games" anyone?).

At the time (late '83, early '84) this used to blow me away every
time. Friends with Vic20's and Sinclairs (Timex in the US?) were VERY
jealous!
