Re: New GS/new accelerator

The cache is a high speed memory. The accelerator 'shadows' or copies the IIgs
memory into the cache to run programs at high speed. However, the accelerator
must slow down to interact with the hardware on the IIgs. So if you have a
bigger cache, you can run longer in the fast memory (assuming no Rom or other
hardware access is required.) The speed will vary depending upon how much cache
is used and how often the cache has to be refreshed or other IIgs hardware has
to be accessed.

The results of cache performance can be both calculated and observed. The
latter is most effective when done using your normal software and a stopwatch.
All software perform differently depending on the hardware required to access
during execution. (I won't go into the slow ram on the IIgs that allows
compatability wilth old stuff.)

Hope this helps,
Ed
