That's like reinventing the wheel.

Why not just send a couple of dollars to http://www.crl.com/~joko
Shareware Solutions II and get a freeware terminal program on
disk.  That way, you can ymodem or zmodem the file across.
You'll probably need binary mode.  Text mode usually scrambles
program files.

Look through the disk library at Shareware Solutions II to find a
terminal program.

Yes, you do end up spending a few dollars on the IIGS for the
disk, but it will save you hours of headache.
