Many of the open source projects are now funded by large
corporations. Then you have the companies like Red Hat, they
make a great distribution, but keep their own programmers
to ensure the package works.
The benefit to the Linux/BSD open source is for in-house
programmers who need to tweak the system for their own
purposes.
Now, I am a big fan of the open source concept. It just
hasn't made it big in the general public and is rapidly
being swallowed up by the corporations. To some degree, this
is a benefit, many improvements have been made in the OS and
support programs.
All I care about is being able to use it on my home network
and being able to download any upgrades from the web.
