Apple serial communications was always a little flaky. Some
times what works on one won't work on another. There is no
reasonable explanation for this.
You should make sure to have the null modem is built right.
For higher speeds, the handshaking comes into play. Once
the null modem signals are shorted properly it should work
better. You may also want to try using the Xon/Xoff hand
shaking method.
