Apple IIgs - Internet Capable???

Hello.  My parents own an Apple IIgs (ROM 3) purchased
sometime in the late 1980s.  All they want to use it for now
is internet access and e-mail.  I'm a PC user myself so am
unable to answer their questions about whether it can be
upgraded to the point where they can use it for that
purpose.

Any ideas????  If the answer is positive, what advice do you
have about modems, browsers, etc.?
