My AE drive works fine with the SuperDrive card.  The important thing
to remember is that when new, the AE drive cost less than half that
of a genuine SuperDrive, did the same thing and more, and had a
nice dual color read/write activity light.

I think AE's driver software has built in "AE detection."  Can't give
an advantage to the competition, you know.

This is not unlike how earlier Mac hard drive setup software would
check to make sure a hard drive was Apple brand or else would
refuse to format it.  In fact, Advanced Disk Utilities for the IIGS
exhibits this behavior for formatting HFS volumes to be used on
Macs.

Just like AE wanted you to buy their high density drive not Apple's,
if you wanted 1.6MB, Apple wanted you to buy their SCSI hard
drives for your Mac rather than third party ones.
