An A2 BBS Sad Story to Relate
Well, it seems Y2K strikes again in A2land with respect to an old and well know
BBS thats going to end its online life at the end of this month, because of
problems related to not being able to fully function as it had before as a
result of the Y2K date problem and an inability to sustain operations fully.
The BBS message base is off and while their news groups come in - they can no
longer translate them.
So, although Ive never before actually accessed a BBS or downloaded anything
from one, during my long history in the Apple II world over the past several
years, I received an email inviting me to connect to this BBS with unlimited
use
to browse over all of its contents and download anything I find that could be
of useful value to the general Apple II community and its users, that our
current
A2 sites might not have on them.
Well, come next week - of I go on my first ever Apple II BBS browsing review
and adventure to rescue and secure for uploads to our existing ftp sites -
anything the BBS contains, thats unique and of value for all the Apple II
users to
have access to.
Its rather sad to see any Apple II BBS exit the online world and Im sorry to
see it happening. But, Im thankful that the BBS host was concerned enough
with
securing anything from it (not currently available to the public) for the needs
of the general Apple II users - to invite me to do the search and rescue effort
with its contents. Whatever I may find there that I dont see available at
the
present on our public ftp sites, Ill make sure to download and upload it -
ASAP.
I guess thats about all I have to relate on the matter.
Best Wishes to You & Thanks Norman,
Tom
