I should relate how I shuffle things 'tween my Macs and my PC net:  I do not 
have an ethernet card for any of the Macs nor a Ethernet bridge to Appletalk, 
and I do  not have any modems on the Mac side . so.....to get stuff from the 
net and get it on the Mac (for eventual transfer to my //s) I have a 40 meg 
Mac SCSI drive from an old CLassic.  I have a SCSI card on one PC  which has a 
modem.  I download in PC Land, run a Mac emulator and copy the file to that 
SCSI, unplug it and plug it into the Mac- an LCII (jumper shuffle) and copy.  
I have 
succeeded in transfering bxy shk and other such files this way.
