Hmmm....
Maybe things are not quite as straightforward regarding Grappler+ dip
switches for DeskJets...in any case, I don't think we yet have enough input
from Grappler+ owners to make any conclusive determination.
I have 4 reported combos so far that folks say work great...
User #1 Bev's Recommendations Lyle's Setup E-mail response
------- --------------------- ------------ ---------------
On Off Off Off
Off On On Off
Off On On Off
On On On Off
All use AppleWorks, and apparently (at least) 2 use GS/OS also.
I'm sure Bev has used and knows AW more than most, and has pushed the AW
envelope more than anyone else. So, I certainly trust her judgement of all
things related to AppleWorks. But, User #1 and the E-mail respondent also
say their settings work great in AppleWorks. What could it mean?
It's been years since I got my AE Parallel card and HP LaserJet, but at the
time, I contacted Burger Bill and asked him about settings. If I remember
correctly, his response was along the lines of: "A parallel interface card
merely passes data straight through, so don't concern yourself with dip
switch settings."
At the time, I just slapped the parallel card into the slot, using whatever
factory default switch settings were set, and I've never given it another
thought, have never fiddled with dip switches, and have never had any
problems printing. Then again, although I personally use Appleworks Classic
daily, I do 99% of my printing under GS/OS using AWGS.
So, I'm not yet sure what conclusions to reach. How 'bout some more input,
people? Surely there are others reading this who also have a Grappler+ and
a DeskJet. If so, please take a moment to check your dip settings, and
report them here. Thank you.
