It has been a really long time, but I think that with v1.3j, it was patched to 
use the IIgs serial port. If I remember correctly, the IIgs serial port is not 
compatible with any prior serial port hardware.

Hopefully Mr.Lichter (the current owner of GBBS) can help you out..
