A Franklin and an Alltech Drive

A friend gave me a Franklin Ace 1200.  It is  in (I think) fair shape.  Seems 
to have a blown "B" drive but "A" works,  it has a 80 col card, CP/M card, 
combo printer serial card�..I know it boots into CP/M because I have some CP/M 
floppies.  DOS 3.3. otoh I do not have.  I called Alltech and said "Does your 
//c-e hard drive  work on a Franklin?"   They said "yes"   so I bought one.  I 
put it in slot 7 and fired it  up.  
Doesn't come up.  Light on A comes on steady.  Hit reset, LED on hard drive 
goes on and its sound changes,  and I get a  ] prompt but no commands work (I 
get  ?SYNTAX ERROR on everything). I looked all over the Apple2 sites, read 
FAQs��I am at a loss. What am I doin wrong guys?
