Can't help on the software but, try removing one bank of ram at the top.
If the card still fails, swap that bank with the ones you removed, or just
pull them out. This way you you can find the bad bank. This is harder
than a software check though.

Many of the old xt and 286 systems used similiar chips  Umfortunately,
I gave away all the old boards I used to have.
