PIF files. Finder Extras are exactly the same files as init files but
I don't think you will find any Finder Extras with as a TIF file.
PIF=Permanent Initialization File, TIF=Temporary Initialization File.
PIFs stay in memory after being loaded, TIFs get loaded, do something
and are then wiped from memory.
By the way, there is no obvious way to tell the difference between an
init file and a Finder Extra. You have to read the documentation or
have someone tell you it is one or the other. Most Finder Extras will
add a menu item in Finder's Extras menu which will usually give you a
clue as to the filename of the Finder Extra.

You can put Finder Extras in the *:System:System.Setup folder but as
they are PIFs they will be using some of your IIgs' RAM all the time.
It is usually considered best to put Finder Extras into the
*:System:FinderExtras folder as the Finder will load them from this
directory when it starts and wipe them out of memory when it quits
which saves you some RAM for your applications.
However, some people prefer to leave their Finder Extras in the
System.Setup folder because the Finder then doesn't need to load them
when it starts or unload them when it quits which makes starting and
exiting the Finder a little faster.
I hope this helps.
