The Ground FTP Server is the place you want and it is not
like Asimov. It is larger. A large percentage of IIGS software
is freeware and shareware and this is where you will find it.

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/apple16/

Just browse the folders. Ground's software is stored in
.shk/.txt pairs. The .txt files are descriptions of the software.
.shk files are the actual software archives.

You left click on the .txt files to read the descriptions
and right click the .shk files to save the links (or on
a Mac you can click and hold the mouse button and
select save link from the drop down menu).

.shk files are lzw compressed file and disk archives which
can be extracted with the ShrinkIt! GS program. You can
get this program on disk from http://www.crl.com/~joko
Shareware Solutions II disk service. Or you can locate it
in the communications section of the Ground server. It is
just a little more difficult to self-extract the compressor.
However, if your other computer is a Mac, look at the Mac
section of Ground in the root directory:

ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/

In the Mac section, you'll find a diskcopy image that can
be extracted to a disk containing ShrinkIt! GS which
will run on the IIGS.

Of course an even better way of getting IIGS software is
to buy a Focus hardcard from http://www.allelec.com/
Alltech Electronics. This is a 500MB internal drive with
the OS preinstalled. The controller is an IDE interface
which can control any 2.5" IDE hard drive up to 2GB in
size. The hard drive comes with a library of shareware
and freeware. Saves you the trouble of download.
