John,

Something similar happened with my Apple II+ years ago.  I don't know if the
IIe is built the same way, but there are plastic "fingers" that hold the
keyboard assembly up in the II+.  It was basically a matter of taking the top
off the computer and reaching under the assembly and pressing it back up and
into place.

I only had to do it once, but it did the trick and worked perfectly for years
after that.
