Actually, on most PC's, pin 1 on the data cable goes TOWARDS the power connector
for the drive. In other words, the red stripe on the data cable should always be
closest to the power connector for the drive.
It gets really fun when some clone manufacturer puts the connector underneath the
pins for the data cable, and doesn't label the drive. Creates some very weird
symptoms, that.
