Profile and the IIe
I know someone out there used a Profile on II. A friend of mine was given
a IIe with one and I was wondering the secrets to using it. I only used a
IIc and gs with floppies until I bought a SCSI card and hard drive for the
gs.
1. Does it take a special cable to hook up to the I/O controller? He
assumed a DB25M to DB25M. By using that cable, and with the profile card
in slot 2, the ProDOS System Utilities disk recognized the drive (Slot 2,
Drive 1), but we get I/O errors when we try to read or format it.
2. Is it readable with a IIe and ProDOS 8? Is it better to use ProSEL 8 instead?
3. Is it 5 megs max?
4. Once it is connected, does it work just like a hard drive on a gs?
Aside from that, it has an AE RamWorks 1 meg RAM card in it, but neither
Copy II+, nor AW 2.0 recognize the extra ram, as well as none of the Apple
System Utility prgrams. However, AW 3.0 and PublishIt! 4 recognize the
extra RAM. He'd like to use some of the RAM for a RAMDisk. Any thoughts?
Weird too, I always was under the impression that for the e to use a 3.5"
drive that you needed the card and a 3.5" UniDisk. However, I found out
today that a 3.5" Apple drive works as well. It was fun playing around
with the old beasts. It brought back some memories!
