Maybe just a desire and ability to deal with the complexities of
reality? 
As opposed to the math and theory of pure CS (does anyone else
prefer Knuth's 1st ed. to his current 3rd. ed.?) 
Or the politics of a "career" (mine has been more like the other
definition of the word.)
