Dungeons of Despair - Wizardry

I was recently reading through "The Giant List of Classic Game
Programmers" and noticed that Andrew Greenberg and Robert Woodhead, the
creators of the early Wizardry games, are credited with an Apple 2 game
named "Dungeons of Despair".

The list entry suggests this was a precursor to "Wizardry 1 - The
Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord".

As a long-time fan of the early Wizardry games I'm interested in
finding out more about "Dungeons of Despair" and was wondering if
someone may have some information about it. For example: Was it ever
officially released? Was it an early version of "Proving Grounds" or
something quite different? Did it use the Wiz 1 game engine (or at
least an early form of it)? etc.

Any information anyone can provide about this piece of early CRPG
history would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve Evans
