Hi Byron, that's an audio input pre-amp card. There should
be a ribbon cable that stretches from the card to the
Ensoniq connector on the front right of the motherboard.
The card should have an input jack that mates with a cutout
on the back panel of the IIGS. A microphone goes into this
jack (or another input device like a walkman or CD-player).
The card does nothing but act as a pre-amp to boost the
microphone (or tape deck or CD-player) input to the levels
needed by the IIGS Ensoniq chip's Analog to Digital
Converter (ADC) so that you can digitize sounds.
One hint that the HyperStudio manual talks about is
digitizing sound at 26320 Hz or double or half that. The
IIGS power supply operates at that frequency so sounds
digitized at that sampling rate, double it, or half it will
result in clean samples.
I can email you some IIGS sound digitization software
if you want. Don't know how much you can do with only
1MB. Using the System 5.0.4 disk I sent you rather than
System 6.0.1 might free up some available memory for
sounds.
