Quick clarification here: PC Exchange only puts on a resource
fork when moving from HFS to ProDOS when it can't identify the
file as belonging to the ProDOS file system.

If it can ID it as a ProDOS file, no resource fork will be
added. This is where the Macintosh utility ProType comes in
handy. It will identify certain Apple II files by a file
extension and set the correct filetype on the Mac. It also
has the added benefit of being able to decode Binscii files.
It's not necessary if you are dealing exclusively with files
that are only being manipulated by a GS/OS program, but as
soon as you start doing P8 stuff, it can come in handy.
