I have successfully connected to a WinNT server running Macintosh
services with a IIgs and a Farallon PN842-1 Etherwave Printer Adapter.
I got it to recognize a "netatalk" server on Linux, but haven't had time
to figure out the access permission stuff yet, so I haven't actually
logged in.
I tried a Shiva Fastpath, and had some success, but the Farallon adapter
worked much better (it's also a fraction of the size).
I had some bizarre problems initially. It turns out my Ascend Pipeline 25
is configured to block AppleTalk traffic... mostly. Some routing-related
stuff from work leaks through. Apparently it's just enough to confuse
everything else, so when I connect into work all the AppleTalk stuff drops.
Bizarre. (Disconnecting the Pipeline fixed the "nbp_rgstr" errors I
posted about earlier.)
At any rate, the NT4 setup works pretty well. I was able to copy files
around and launch them from the remote server fairly quickly. Sure
beats cranking up ProTERM and doing Zmodem transfers (with a crusty
version of ProCOMM on the other end that doesn't know about long filenames).
