May I suggest:

Farallon PN842-1 EtherWave Printer Adapter. Roughly the same size as
the AUI transceivers they made (I have one attached to the $#^! Shiva).
Comes with a "wall wart" power supply that plugs into the back side of
the localtalk connector, which is convenient if your Ethernet is farther
from the wall than your computer.

Anyway, it has a localtalk connector on one end and two 10base-T Ethernet
connectors on the other. Plug one into the IIgs, the other into your
Ethernet hub. Done. Comes with a Mac utility to configure AppleTalk
zones, but I didn't have to bother with that (not having zones).

BTW, I finally figured out the problem: some sort of routing traffic
leaking in from servers at work. My ISDN bridge blocks most of the
traffic, but apparently not all, and my home systems got all confused.

The EtherWave (and Linux, and WinNT) recovers as soon as I unplug the
work connection. The Shiva gets confused and wanders off on its own.
It's big, noisy, and doesn't work as well. It also cost 1/5th as much
since I bought it used on eBay... ah well.

I did some file copying under WinNT4 Server with the Macintosh services
installed, and I have tentative success on Linux netatalk. I have to
figure out the whole authentication thing -- it only lets me in as
guest, and I haven't set up anything for "guest" to do yet -- but I
figure that's just a matter of sitting down and figuring it all out.
