Nope, I thought that the card itself is not 32-bit addressing compatible
as well, if that makes sense...maybe not. Mine always ran under 7.5.5 but
I always had to turn 32-bit off before I could use the card (which also
meant restarting and deactivating 90% of my extensions so I had adequate
memory). And I used the latest version from Apple (even tried the buggy
beta for a bit). I do know there were earlier versions that required
system 6 though (well, in a way...they explain that they need to not be
run under multifinder and then crash...under system 7.x)
Anyway, the explanation as it was given to me once when I complained to a
programmer friend about it "why can't they just make it 32-bit
compatible??" one time...well, this is going to sound a bit...dodgy I
guess because I don't remember the exact details and also I don't know as
much about memory addressing as he does...but apparently while it would be
possible, it would require doing...something...to prevent the upper part
of the memory from getting trampled all over and because of the way that
the IIe card emulates the memory for the IIe, it would not only require
some sort of substantial rewriting that made it simply easier to tell the
user to turn 32-bit off instead, but it would also cause IIe programs that
did certain functions with the IIe memory to behave erratically.
