What, they throw away Apple stuff? Man I wouldn't exactly expect the latest
and greatest (or anywhere near it) to be donated. I'd expect to see Mac Pluses
and 386 type boxes mainly. >>
That's what I expected too. The original manager saved and recycled just about
every scrap of computer that was donated and sold it at prices for families
that couldn't otherwise afford computeres (what Goodwill Computer Works was set
up for in the first place). He did such a swell job that he kept getting
offers from a big retail chain until he finally took them up on it. The new
manager knew nothing about computers (he asked me if the monitor was a TV),
only sold IBM 486s (hard to get those at the store now -- really bar gin time:
set up for the internet for $125) and above, charged two to five times what the
first guy sold the computers at -AND- is making money hand over fist because
people are buying them at those prices.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Everyone thinks that they must have a computer -- and so
they will.
